Khaleda leads; five killed in Bangla poll violence.

AGENCIES DHAKA, Oct. 1. Riding a strong anti-incumbency wave, Begum Khaleda Zias Bangladesh Nationalist Party tonight appeared set for a resounding victory in the general elections, reports said.

Five people were killed and nearly 1,000 injured amid sporadic violence. The voter turn-out was a record 80 per cent, reports said.

According to preliminary results announced by the election commission, the BNP was leading in 61 and its ally, Jamaat-e-Islami, in four seats.
