STATESMAN NEWS SERVICE KOLKATA, Sept. 30. Un-relenting showers throughout the day and heavy downpours in the afternoon and evening caused waterlogging on all major roads and thoroughfares in the city today. Large tracts of Chittaranjan Avenue, parts of Ultadanga, Shakespeare Sarani, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Rabindra Sarovar, Amherst Street, College Street, Southern Avenue, Free School Street and Sudder Street went under knee-deep water. Most of Kasba and adjoining areas were water-logged till late in the evening.

Traffic came to a standstill at many places from early afternoon. However, it.being a Sunday, traffic snarls did not inconvenience too many people. Most …
