TARUN GOSWAMI STATESMAN NEWS SERVICE KOLKATA, Sept. 30. The government will modernise the traditional rice mills to produce rice bran oil. One thousand private rice mills situated in Burdwan, Birbhum and Midnapore districts will be modernised during the current financial year. Steps will be taken to modernise another 5,000 rice mills spread across the state subsequently.

The Cabinet has approved of the decision, and the proposal sent to the Union ministry for agricultural cooperation. West Bengal is the biggest producer of rice with an annual output of 20 million tonnes. The project to modernise the traditional rice mills has been taken up under the technology mission …
