Sami Ul-haq, head of Pakistan's biggest religious school responsible for training many of Afghanistan's Taliban leaders, is considered Osama bin Laden's closest ally in Pakistan. He founded the Afghan Defense Council, which has taken to the streets to protest U.S. retaliation. PERI's Rod Nordland heard him out:

How did you feel when you saw the World Trade Center destroyed?

It was a great loss of human life. But America should investigate properly and not take actions in haste.

Some Muslims even seemed pleased.

They are suffering from American policies. So, they are happy when Americans are suffering. This is an opportunity for America to reflect on why its policies have caused this.
