Bargain Vacations In the Balkans
Many readers liked our Aug. 20 report on cool Balkan vacation spots. "Congratulations on an excellent article," said one. "How gratifying, after years in the wilderness, to see the Adriatic back on the map," wrote another. But as one reader mused, "It's hard to satisfy locals": many disagreed with our taste for local wines, about our calling their language Serbo-Croatian and about what was seen as a peculiarly American obsession with air conditioning--bad for the health, according to some letter writers.
