The consumption of diesel in India declined by 5.2% to 2.732 M tonnes for Aug 2001 and by 4.4% to 15.394 M tonnes during Apr-Aug 2001.

The consumption of petroleum products was 6.997 M tonnes for Aug 2001 and 36.825 M tonnes for Apr-Aug 2001 as against its consumption of 7.228 M tonnes in Aug 2000 and 37.164 M tonnes in Apr-Aug 2000.

The consumption of several other petroleum products for Aug 2001 were as follows: 663,800 tonnes of naphtha/NGL (718,900 tonnes in Aug 2000); 588,500 tonnes of petrol (558,000 tonnes in Aug 2000); 842,600 tonnes of kerosene (900,2000 tonnes in Aug 2000); 606,800 tonnes of LPG …
