If you choose Subaru's Impreza 2.5 RS over its wilder brother, the WRX, you'll definitely notice your car is down 62 horsepower to your buddy's. The WRX is much more of a wild beast than the non-turbocharged RS. But you'll still get a fun-to-drive runabout, offering all-wheel-drive cornering stability and bad-weather traction, as well as standard ABS and the low-rpm torque of an extra 0.5 liter. You'll also take comfort knowing you paid nearly $5,000 less; few awd cars available in the States are as inexpensive as the RS. The RS has a comfortable interior with plenty of room for three young kids in back, terrific front buckets and a great driving position.
