For Matt McMahon, an idea involving a truck and a traveling kitchen has brought him national recognition.

The restaurateur, who owns the McMahon Group in Scottsdale, manages 17 Outback Steakhouses in Arizona and New Mexico, seven of which are in the Valley. He also donated about $1.5 million in food and services to Valley charity events last year and will travel to Washington, D.C., to receive the "Grass Roots" award from the National Restaurant Association.

McMahon was told it will mark the first time an Arizona resident has received the honor.
