A foremen in a cement manufacturing plant, Ching Thien Yew, 41, lost an appeal he made in the High Court against a sentence of three years imprisonment for consuming Syabu, as he has a bad record of four previous convictions for consumption in 1983, 1984, 1988 and 1998.
On June 13 this year, he had pleaded guilty to one count of consuming Syabu and five counts of failure to report to a supervision officer of the Narcotics Control Bureau.
A sentence of 3 years' imprisonment was passed in relation to consumption which was committed on March 2, 1999.
He then appealed against that sentence before Judge Steven Chong.
