Imported footwear prices up 0.6% in second quarter

WASHINGTON (FNS) -- Prices for imported footwear increased 0.6 percent in the second quarter of this year, but they were down 1.2 percent for the year ending in June 1989, the Labor Department reported last week.

In comparison, wholesale prices for footwear manufactured in the United States climbed 1 percent in the second quarter of 1989 and 4.6 percent in the 12-month period ending in June 1989.

The second-quarter increase in prices for imported footwear followed a decline of 1.5 percent in the first quarter of 1989 and a 0.9 percent increase in the final quarter of 1988.
