Kowing your loved ones are behind you can make the road ahead less intimidating. But getting family support is not always automatic. "My wife was always on my side," said Dave, Shift Supervisor of a small respiratory department. "It was my mom and dad, brothers and sisters that were skeptical. They didn't have degrees; they were ignorant of the value of education." But Dave forged ahead. Sure enough, once his skeptical kin witnessed him first earn his bachelor's degree - they were rooting for him whole-heartedly when he made the plunge for his master's.
