The Newest Imports in Europe

Our Aug. 13 package on Europe's immigration policies prompted many readers to share their concerns with us. "Germany plans amendments, but the changes are merely cosmetic," wrote one immigrant. Some Europeans defended their countries' selectivity: "The influx of foreign elements might change the cultural image," protested one. Observed another, "When minorities exceed a certain percentage, ghettoization, pogroms and persecutions occur." And, said another, "is it morally defensible to exclude menial workers to 'keep the economy humming'?"
