Following job losses announced by Bayer, BASF, Clariant and DuPont (figures given in this item), the Akzo Nobel subsidiary Eka Chemicals is to lose 175 jobs, and Ciba Specialty Chemicals is to lose a further 300.

Eka Chemicals (Sweden; 3080 employees) is restructuring to reduce production costs, and 100 of the 175 job losses are to be in Sweden.

These include 25 jobs at Bohus in Oct 2001 when a sodium percarbonate plant closes, and a further 30 jobs in a restructuring of paper chemicals production, on …
