October 29, 2000 is a historical date for the Western Pacific of the World Health Organisation as it was the day it was declared as a polio-free region.

This was highlighted yesterday during session on the agenda of the eradication of poliomyelitis in the region which was chaired by the Acting Minister of Health, Pehin Dato Hj Awg Abdul Aziz.

The highlight of yesterday session was the presentation of certificate to Dr Shigeru Omi, WHO regional Director for the Western Pacific region by Professor Tony Adams, the Chairman of the Regional Commission for the Certification of Poliomyelitis Eradication, on his contribution and efforts to achieve a polio-free status …
