The tight quarters at CART's street races can breed some genuine street fights, but Roberto Moreno kept his cool through the fracas and took the hard-earned win at Vancouver. Only then did the often emotional Moreno let it all hang out, with several victory donuts, a smoky burnout and open weeping on the podium. At age 42 Moreno is CART's oldest driver, his career spanning 16 often fitful years, and the Brazilian veteran was in a mood to celebrate his second career win.
Practice and qualifying were wild: There were more than 50 incidents involving rubs with the walls and trips down the escape roads or into tire
barriers. When qualifying was over, the top-15 cars were within a second of each other, and Alex Tagliani and Patrick Carpentier were first and second on the grid. Player's-Forsythe has struggled the past few years, but it gained momentum recently with strong showings at Detroit and Toronto and a win at Michigan. Needless to say, the all-Canadian front row was a hit with the Vancouver fans.
