* I don't think VW can easily compete with Mercedes. Though the cars may have very good quality, VW currently lacks two things. First, it hasn't got the pedigree, and second, it has to seriously improve the competence of its dealers.

* A $30,000 Mercedes is still a Mercedes. A $50,000 Volkswagen is still a Volkswagen.
