HP-Compaq merger to affect Asia-Pacific.

THE proposed merger between two computer giants, Hewlett-Packard Co and Compaq Computer Corp, is expected to have a major impact on the information and communications technology (ICT) market in the Asia-Pacific as both companies have a strong regional presence.

However, analysts and industry observers interviewed said the effect would not be felt immediately, at least not within the next 18 months, depending on how fast the merged entity rolls out its plans. The merger was announced last week.
