BREAST-CANCER CAUTION
Think you're too young to get screened? Read this.
About 10,000 women under age 39 get breast cancer each year, according to the American Cancer Society. And cancer that strikes at a young age is often more aggressive (read: lethal). That's why it's especially crucial for young women with a family history of early occurence of the disease (such as a mother, grandmother, or sister who was diagnosed before age 40) to start getting regular mammograms ASAP. In fact, a recent European Journal of Cancer study reported that when this particular risk group had early mammograms, 81 percent of the cancers that were found were caught at a treatable stage.
