"I love yoga, but it's the only exercise I do. Will it help me lose weight?"
It depends on the type of yoga you do and how frequently you do it. More vigorous styles, like Astanga, Jivamukti, and Power, run quickly through a series of postures, so they pump your heart rate, crank your metabolism, and burn more calories than gentler styles like Sivananda, Integral, and Ananda, which emphasize relaxation and deep breathing. If weight loss is your primary goal, try adding 30 minutes of cardio three times a week to your yoga routine.

THE MOVE TO MASTER: KNEELING SIDE SWIVEL
(1) Kneel on your left knee and extend your right leg out to the side, foot flat on the floor. Stretch to the left and, placing your left hand on the ground underneath your shoulders, stretch your right arm toward the ceiling, then tilt your head up so that you're looking at your right hand.
(2) Rest your weight on your left hand and extend your left leg so that it is parallel to, and touching, your right leg. Hold for 5 to 15 seconds, then return your left knee to the floor. Do three sets of 15 reps on each side three times per week; you'll see results in about four weeks.
