After going 0-8 in its first varsity season, Desert Pines shocked many by posting an 8-3 record and advancing to the second round of the playoffs last year.
Now the Jaguars are ranked ninth in the West by USA Today. While it may be difficult to justify that ranking, it's easy to see why Desert Pines is among the preseason favorites in the area.
