Milwaukee is one of the more affordable cities in the country for middle-income families to buy a home, according to Runzheimer International, a management consulting firm based in Rochester, Wis.

Runzheimer, which specializes in travel and living costs, keeps a database of more than 300 cities nationwide. The firm acts as a consultant to companies who are relocating, said spokesman Peter Packer.

According to the company, the average home price for a middle-income family in Milwaukee is $221,800, about $4,000 more than the nation's average, Packer said.

That's a better price than you'll find in Denver, where a similar house would cost $284,000, or in …
