Ted Holmquist, general manager of the Buffalo Niagara Marriott and a strong voice in the local hotel, convention and tourism industry, is leaving for a job in New York City.
Holmquist, for the past seven years, oversaw operations at the Marriott, the region's fourth-largest hotel. At the same time, he was a leading advocate and respected leader in the hotel and tourism industry.
Holmquist has accepted a position as general manager for a to-be-determined facility in the Atria Retirement Home chain. Holmquist is going to be assigned to one of the company's operations in the New York City metropolitan area. He begins his new job on Aug. 27.
"It's sad to know I'm leaving Buffalo," Holmquist said. "I'm walking around the hotel and I see associates that have become friends."
