Attorneys with Holtzman, Equels & Furia's Orlando office filed one of the first of several expected Baycol anti-cholesterol drug lawsuits in Orange Circuit Civil Court.

Xyuen Tran, 73, is suing Bayer Corp., the drug's manufacturer, and the drug's seller, Eckerd Corp. of Florida Inc.

A mother of 13 children, Tran suffers kidney failure, joint pain, muscle degeneration and chronic fatigue -- side effects she attributes in the lawsuit to the Baycol prescribed to her last year.

Only one of her kidneys works, and she can hardly walk, said Thomas K. Equels, managing partner of Holtzman, Equels & Furia.
