Seed firms investigated for alleged price fixing: Industry body suspected of role in cartel.

The Fair Trade Commission (FTC) on Wednesday investigated the Japan Seed Trade Association and about 30 seed and sapling sales companies affiliated with the association on suspicion of violating the Antimonopoly Law by illegally fixing wholesale prices for seeds and seedlings.

The association is suspected to have been involved in the cartel. The FTC is analyzing related documents seized from their offices to uncover the truth about the alleged cartel, according to FTC sources.

It is the first large-scale investigation into the seed industry conducted by the FTC.
