Bayer was to have been listed on the New York Stock exchange on 26 Sep 2001, but because of the Baycol/Lipobay anticholesterol drug recall this has been postponed to Feb 2002.

Bayer withdraw Baycol on 8 Aug 2001 in all countries except Japan.

Bayer considers that the claims against the drug are unfounded, because the labels warn against its use with the lipid-lowering drug gemfibrozil and against starting at high doses.

There are 52 possibly related deaths and lawsuits are planned in the USA over muscle weakening.

In Japan, gemfibrozil and high dose formulations are not available.

Bayer shares in Europe have fallen by 28%.
