Brunei's unlicensed car dealers engaged in reconditioned Japanese and European cars are driving the Sultanate's legitimate auto men to the wall.

So much so, the booming sales in reconditioned imports are threatening to deliver a fatal blow to the national car industry, leading car dealers said yesterday.

The situation has become so serious that the work force is faced with major pay cuts and layoffs.

It seems that car dealers are blaming the relevant authority as they are losing financially and their market share is being drastically reduced because of a reportedly unrestricted inflow of reconditioned cars into the Sultanate.
