If you liked Chevrolet's SSR concept, take heart. The ``production prototype'' Super Sports Roadster that General Motors president and CEO Rick Wagoner rolled out at Detroit's Woodward Dream Cruise doesn't stray much from the original idea for the hot-rod roadster pickup.

Scheduled to begin production at the end of 2002, SSR gets a small-block 5.3-liter V8 (vs. the 6.0-liter in the concept), a next-generation small truck platform and all the retro good looks that made the concept a hit on the 2000 show circuit.
