Cinderella is one of those classic fairy tales that seems lost in time, speaking not to the present but to the past. Pulling it into the present requires a time warp that changes the story itself.

The road-show production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's 1957 musical "Cinderella," which is showing at the Buell Theatre, undertakes to give the fairy tale a modern feel but winds up feeling disjointed and irrelevant instead.
