THE LAUGHING, GIGGLING BOY is throwing a doll lazily into the air and letting it drop onto the grey wool picnic blanket. A small, sardonic smile is stitched across the doll's face in black thread. Swoosh. The doll goes up, reaching its apex then tumbling lazily, end over end, and landing with a dull thwump.
Swoosh.
Thwump.
Swoosh.
Thwump.
The man looks up and through a mouthful of potato salad says, "Still playing with dolls, eh?" There is a twinkle in the man's eye, mirth in his voice.
"Hush, now," says the woman.
