The Right Start Inc., a 68-store chain that sells infant and toddler safety products and toys, announced Aug. 16 that it is buying all of the assets of bankrupt instructional-toy retailer Zany Brainy Inc., in a deal worth almost $185 million, including the assumption of debt.
Calabasas, Calif.-based Right Start also said that Waterton Management llc, which has in recent months taken control of Zany, will invest $20 million in Right Start for a 48% stake in the combined company. On July 12, Waterton said it would spend more than $115 million to take over Zany.
