A report from the U.S. National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID), part of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, says that the 17D-derived yellow fever vaccine may be responsible for causing severe illness in seven people.
Approximately 300 million people worldwide have received the yellow fever vaccine. These seven cases represent the first reports of illness associated possibly with the vaccine between 1996-2001. Although not proven in all cases, yellow fever vaccine may have been the cause of illness.
