2001 AUG 22 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) --
VaxGen, Inc. (VXGN) announced that it has finalized an agreement to collaborate with BBI Biotech, a wholly owned subsidiary of Boston Biomedica, Inc. (BBII), to collect, process, and store white blood cells and seminal plasma from participants in VaxGen's Phase III clinical trial in North America and Europe.
The trial is testing the effectiveness of VaxGen's HIV vaccine, AIDSVAX. If AIDSVAX proves effective, the project will investigate cellular immune responses and cellular factors associated with the vaccine in the collected human tissue and cell samples. Those investigations will take place when the Phase III clinical trial concludes. It is hoped that the information from the trial and this collaborative project will provide a better understanding of how vaccines may prevent HIV infection.
