Antigenics, Inc. (AGEN) announced that it has entered into a collaboration with Bruce D. Walker, MD, director of the Partners AIDS Research Center at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, and one of the world's leading immunologists in the field of HIV research.
Walker's association with Antigenics will involve a study combining his pioneering work in identifying HIV related antigens and Antigenics' heat shock protein (HSP) technology. HSPs are recognized as very effective T-cell activators. T cells are recognized by HIV experts, including Walker, as crucial in controlling HIV infections.
Under the terms of the agreement, Walker's laboratory will utilize an in vitro system to test the ability of HSPs complexed to HIV antigens to activate HIV specific helper and cytotoxic T-cell clones isolated from HIV infected persons.
Few have done more in advancing the study of the immune system's ability to control HIV than Walker," said Garo H. Armen, Antigenics. "His data show the central role of T-cell immunity in controlling HIV infection. We are pleased about the opportunity to collaborate with ...
