BENTONVILLE, ARK. -- A recent realignment of major management responsibilities at Wal-Mart is offering insight into the retailer's future competition of senior leadership. Three key executives, Don Harris, Jim Haworth and Doug Degn, were given new or expanded responsibilities in the areas of merchandising and operations, a move that would indicate all three are being groomed for further advancement within the company.
Harris, 43, was named executive vp of general merchandise for the Wal-Mart Stores Division after serving the past 22 months as the division's executive vp and coo. Haworth, 39, executive vp of operations for Sam's Club the past 18 months, will fill the position vacated by Harris.
