2001 JUL 26 -- (NewsRx Network) -- Researchers in Israel have reported a case in which nitroglycerine ointment effectively relieved vaginismus, a condition of vaginal tightness resulting in painful sexual intercourse.
A case report of a young Bedouin couple was published recently in the European Journal of Obstetrics Gynecology and Reproductive Biology. The investigators found that treatment with inexpensive nitroglycerine ointment, applied just before sexual intercourse, permanently relieved the problem after just two or three treatments. Because the couple came from conservative Bedouin background, they were unwilling to participate in long-term sex and behavioral therapy usually used to treat vaginismus.
