Foreign Minister Makiko Tanaka finally gave up her resistance to replacing Shunji Yanai, Japanese ambassador to the United States, Thursday night, according to ministry sources.

Tanaka met with Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuo Fukuda at the prime minister's official residence to make a report on personnel affairs at the ministry, the sources said.
