JAKARTA, July 31 (Bernama) -- An attempt to disqualify Golkar, the once powerful ruling party under former President Suharto, failed today after the Indonesian Supreme Court here turned down an application filed by several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) which accused the party of gross violation during the 1999 general elections.

The party, which emerged as the second biggest after President Megawati Sukarnoputri's Indonesian Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP), was accused of receiving funds exceeding the amount allowed under election rules.
