It is pointless to halt globalisation, says Supachai.

IT is pointless for nations to waste time trying to stop globalisation and people to disrupt various international conferences on the subject by staging violent protests, Incoming World Trade Organisation director- general Dr Supachai Panitchpakdi said.

He said this was because globalisation was "imminent and unstoppable" and the best thing anyone could do to face it was to get ready.

"Every time a conference on globalisation is held in any part of the world you see some people chaining themselves to lampposts, breaking things and protesting.

"I don't know what the purpose of all this is ... don't waste time trying to stop globalisation as it is …
