Thursday, July 26, 2001THE MAYFIELD FOUR -- "SECOND SKIN" -- (EPIC) In the press release for "Second Skin," the new album by the Mayfield Four, one of the many claims attributed to the band is that it "could fill the gap left by Soundgarden." Whoa there, boys, let's simmer down a bit, shall we? True, both bands hail from the Pacific Northwest and both bands kick out boulder-sized chunks of real rock music. But to say that the Mayfield Four rates on the same level as the now-defunct Soundgarden is being overly kind. With that little misconception out of the way, there's no reason why the Mayfield Four couldn't someday challenge Soundgarden for the Seattle rock crown. "Second Skin" is a better than average rock album with a sound that is deceptively full for a band made up of only three members. Myles Kennedy, Zia Uddin and Marty Meisner crank …
