Suicidal MSDF member busted for embezzlement.
MUTSU, Aomori -- A Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) member has been arrested for pocketing about 700,000 yen in public funds set aside for one of the force's lodging houses, MSDF officials said Saturday.
Fumio Matsuzaka, 53, a 2nd class petty officer at the MSDF's Ominato district headquarters, was taken into custody earlier this month after he slashed one of his wrists in a suicide bid. He later confessed that he pocketed the funds in a desperate attempt to repay his debts.
