Universal McCann has made its chief executive, Pru Parkinson, redundant as part of a cost-cutting exercise.
Parkinson, who joined Universal in February from Western, was informed of the decision on Monday. Her role is one of several to be axed to make savings. A number of staff at Universal's Europe, the Middle East and Africa headquarters have also been made redundant.
Chris Shaw, Universal-McCann's UK chairman, confirmed Parkinson's departure. He said: "You just have to look at what is going on in the marketplace to realise that everybody is having to behave in a tough way."
Universal is thought to have axed at least three senior management roles at EMEA level as well as more junior positions.
Parkinson's role will be split between current Universal management with Shaw taking on some additional responsibility. ...
