Hotel California: Area hotels tack on energy surcharges.(Brief Article)

At the height of the tourist season, some area hotels, led by Marriott, are adding a touch of California to their room rates: an energy surcharge.

The fees -- $3 a night at Marriott's full-service locations and $1.50 at its other properties such as Marriott Suites --- went into effect in late May and early June at 21 properties in the area Other hotels also tacking on an energy surcharge include the St. Louis Airport Hilton, which added $2.80 per night to its room rates in April, and Holiday Inn Airport North, which added a $2 per night charge the same month.
