Ex-Fuji chairman gets suspended sentence for bribes.

A former Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. chairman was slapped with a suspended sentence Tuesday after he was found guilty of bribing late Defense Agency vice minister and legislator Yojiro Nakajima.

Former Chairman Isamu Kawai, 78, was handed an 18-month imprisonment, suspended for three years, while his aide, ex-Fuji Heavy Industries director Yasuyuki Kogure, 66, was hit with a 14-month sentence, also suspended for three years at the Tokyo District Court.

"The defendants bent the rules in pursuit of profit for their company," Presiding Judge Hiroko Kondo ruled, but handed down lenient sentences because the duo …
