Japanese mobile phone giant NTT DoCoMo is in talks with South Korea's SK Telecom about buying an equity stake in the peninsula's largest mobile phone operator.
An SK Telecom spokesman said further talks would be held in July to explore a strategic partnership that would include a significant minority equity stake. NTT DoCoMo confirmed the talks in a statement but added that no final decision had been reached on whether to make an investment.
Local news reports from Seoul said that NTT DoCoMo might buy up to 14.5% of SK Telecom for about $2.9 billion. NTT DoCoMo declined to comment.
