Biomira, Inc. (Nasdaq:BIOM) (TSE:BRA) announced that data from a Phase II clinical trial of Theratope(R) vaccine being tested in metastatic colorectal cancer suggest a survival benefit.
The data, from a study conducted at the University of Nebraska, centered on 45 patients and were presented at the 37th annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in San Francisco, California.
The results involved patients in a metastatic colorectal cancer study, conducted by Dr. Margaret Tempero, University of California at San Francisco Comprehensive Cancer Center. Ten of the patients had metastatic rectal cancer and 35 patients had metastatic colon cancer.
Patients were randomized to receive one of three dose strengths of Theratope vaccine (1, 10, 100 units). The strongest immune responses to Theratope vaccine occurred at the highest dose tested (100 units).
