From video cameras to PDAs, there's not an American alive that hasn't experienced first hand the effect of the digital revolution. This is especially true in the business world, where digital has become synonymous with the tools and toys of the new New Economy. But for all the convenience these items offer, they're still only peripherals, often built for convenience and portability but lacking in power and expandability.

That's where the PC fits in. Many of the new tech gadgets we've come to rely on were designed to work in conjunction with a central PC, not independent of one--this is especially true of products such as digital cameras, PDAs and MP3s. And we're not …
