AS CHAPTER LEADERS AND MEMBERS from all over the country head to San Francisco for the annual rite known simply as "conference" (see p. 88-105), it seems a logical time to explore overlapping areas of interest and/or possible sources of conflict between national and state associations. An informal poll turned up a number of examples of statewide participation in both ALA's impending lawsuit (AL, May, p. 20-21) against the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and local variants on the "@ your library" campaign, as well as at least one instance of a perennial library critic appearing on conference programs.
