The first International Electronic and Computer Music Festival in Iceland took place from 18-28 October 2000 in the recently built Salurinn Music Hall in Kopavogur, near Reykjavik, Iceland.
The purpose of the festival was to raise awareness of the influence of electronic and computer technology on music, to provide information on its composition and performance, and to search for answers to the questions of what will be technology's role in the music of the coming century, and how music will subsequently develop. The festival included eleven concerts which had the past, present, and future of electronic and computer music as their main theme.
A conference on electroacoustic music ran concurrently with the festival, and each concert was preceded by a lecture which placed the music in its historical and technical context. Lecturers included Peter Apfelbaum, Clarence Barlow, Konrad Boehmer, Don Buchla, Bernhard Gunter, Martin Knakkegaard, Paul Lansky, Ake Parmerud, Joran Rudi, Wayne Siegel, ...
