Belgium For the first time this year Western European car sales have shown a slight increase, according to the latest figures issued by Acea.

In April sales of new cars in Western Europe amounted to 1,284,236 units, a rise of 0.8% on the same month last year. However, officials at Acea pointed out that this year there had been considerably more working days in the month, owing to fewer national holidays.

The three largest Western European markets all showed healthy gains with France increasing its April sales by 8.7%, and Germany and the United Kingdom increasing by 7.1% and 7.0% respectively. The German results were particularly encouraging, reversing as …
