Child cam center starts with a love of children
Until recently, child care centers and commercial banking had little in common. After all, caring for 4-year-olds doesn't require heavy machinery or a fleet of trucks...unless they're Tonka trucks.
But when Barbara Jones, a Waterbury home day care provider since 1991, wanted to renovate her home so she could take in more children, she started down a path that will lead to the opening of the Rain Bow Academy later this month. Along the way, the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority (CHEFA) and the People's Bank Community Lending Department helped her get the financing she needed.
The story begins more than 10 years ago, shortly after Jones had received, in her words "a golden parachute." One day, while some of her 14 grandchildren were running around her house, a neighbor remarked how calmly and loving ly she dealt with the kids. At that moment Jones thought about child care as her next career.
